چکیده

he lack of predictive tools to assess the relative risk of stress fracture injury has posed a great challenge for military readiness and competitive athletic training. This article presents a methodology of assessing such risks using computational models and biomechanical stress analysis in a human femur. Preliminary results have demonstrated the capability of our methodology in studying the effect of risk factors as independent variables, which would be very diffi cult, if not impossible, to accomplish by any other means. We have shown that certain geometric features are signifi cant risk factors for femoral neck stress fracture. Further development of our methodology will enable more accurate prediction of stress fracture risk and will help in the design of optimal training regimens to minimize the risk of injury.

An investigation of the effects of osteoporosis, impact intensity and orientation on human femur injuries: a parametric finite element study

Objective: Femur is the strongest, longest and heaviest bone in the human body. Due to the great importance of femur in human body, its injury may cause large numbers of disabilities and mortality. Considering various effective parameters such as mechanical properties, geometry, loading configuration, etc. can propel the study to the trustable results.. Methods: A 3D finite element model of the...

NURBS-Based Isogeometric Analysis Method Application to Mixed-Mode Computational Fracture Mechanics

An interaction integral method for evaluating mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for two dimensional crack problems using NURBS-based isogeometric analysis method is investigated. The interaction integral method is based on the path independent J-integral. By introducing a known auxiliary field solution, the mixed-mode SIFs are calculated simultaneously. Among features of B-spline basis...

Economic Analysis of Bisphosphonate Use after Distal Radius Fracture for Prevention of Hip Fracture

Background: Osteoporosis is a common condition among the elderly population, and is associated with an increased risk of fracture. One of the most common fragility fractures involve the distal radius, and are associated with risk of subsequent fragility fracture. Early treatment with bisphosphonates has been suggested to decrease the population hip fracture burden. However, there have been no p...

Biomechanical assessment of composite versus metallic intramedullary nailing system in femoral shaft fractures: A finite element study.

BACKGROUND Intramedullary nails are the primary choice for treating long bone fractures. However, complications following nail surgery including non-union, delayed union, and fracture of the bone or the implant still exist. Reducing nail stiffness while still maintaining sufficient stability seems to be the ideal solution to overcome the abovementioned complications. METHODS In this study, a ...

A Biomechanical Comparison of Two Intramedullary Implants for Subtrochanteric Fracture in Two Healing Stages: A Finite Element Analysis

Background. The biomechanical effect of two implants, namely, proximal femoral nail antirotation for Asia (PFNA-II) and Expert Asian Femoral Nail (A2FN), for treating subtrochanteric fracture during healing stages, is still unclear. Methods. A 3D finite element model of an intact femur was constructed and validated. The fractured and postoperative models were accordingly produced. The postopera...
